Below knee prosthesis

- Your prosthetist will cover the specific details of putting on and taking off your prosthesis when you receive it.  If you have any problems with this process it can be addressed in the follow-up visits over the next couple of weeks.

- Your prosthesis was designed to be worn with a specific shoe heel height.  It may become difficult to walk if you change your heel height significantly.  Please discuss with your prosthetist if you have the need or desire to change your heel height often.

- Clean the inside of your socket each evening with a diluted mild soap and non-abrasive cloth or sponge.  Be sure to remove all soap residue from the inside of the socket and dry with a clean towel.  Make sure the socket is completely dry before wearing.

- You may wipe the outside of your prosthesis of any visible dirt or sand with a damp cloth but do not submerge your prosthesis in water.  If your prosthesis does become submerged in water dry it as quickly and thoroughly as possible and inform your prosthetist at the next follow-up visit.

- Check your entire prosthesis every evening for any visible damage or loose parts.  If you discover something wrong DO NOT attempt to fix or adjust the prosthesis by yourself.  Please contact our office and DO NOT wear the prosthesis until the issue has been resolved.
